Mark Edge will celebrate his 25th year of employment with The Iowa Department for the Blind in December 2023. Mark has held his current position as an independent living rehabilitation teacher with the Independent Living Program for the past 5 years. His service region includes Polk, Dallas, Story, Boone, Greene, and Guthrie Counties. He works with individuals who have experienced vision loss by teaching them how to do all tasks of daily living without the use of sight. The majority of his clients are over the age of 55. Mark teaches them blindness skills so that they may be self-sufficient in their homes and active participants in their communities. His clients build confidence in their abilities when they learn and master these alternative methods to using vision. Prior to working for the Independent Living Program, Mark worked in downtown Des Moines at the adult training center at The Iowa Department for the Blind teaching orientation and mobility (cane travel) and home economics. Mark, a native of Newton, Iowa, is a graduate of Iowa State University and resides in Windsor Heights.
